How to Lock Facebook on your iPhone and iPad with Screen Time, Without Jailbreaking

If you are tired of people always nagging into privacy on your iPhone, or you just don’t like anyone seeing your Facebook feed. Maybe, if you are like me, have self-control issues, then you are in the right place. Read on to find out how to lock FaceBook easily without jailbreaking, or deleting FaceBook from your iPhone.

Apple doesn’t provide any feature specifically for locking apps on your iPhone or iPad, though it does provide a workaround. Using Screen time feature in modern Apple operating systems; you can lock Facebook access on your Apple Machine.

How to Lock Facebook App on your iPhone and iPad with Screen Time?

  1. Goto to your Settings.

  1. If you haven’t set up Screen Time, simply follow the instructions to enable it. Once you’re done, Tap on Use Screen Time Passcode.
  2. Type in your desired passcode
  3. Go back to the main Screen Time page and tap App Limits.

  1. Now, tap Add Limit, and enter your passcode if asked.

  1. You’ll now see app categories. For Facebook: tap on Social Networking category, check Facebook and tap Next.

  1. Now on this screen, you can set a time limit to your app. Since we’ll be using it for locking the app, set the time to 1 minute, also, toggle Block at End of Limit below.

Tip: If you want to remove the app limit, at any time swipe left and tap Delete, or take it to the left.

  1. There you go! Now you just need to use the app for 1 minute until Screen Time locks your app.
  2. Now, Screen Time gives on extra minute which shows when you tap on Ask for more time

  1. Simply tap on it, and it’ll show One More Minute, tap and use it for a minute and that’s it.

Now your Facebook app can’t be accessed without the passcode.

How to Lock Facebook Website on your iPhone and iPad?

If you don’t have the Facebook app or want to encrypt Facebook on a browser as well, it’s simple, though this will work on Safari browser only and not on Chrome or any other browser. 

The first 6 steps are the same as the app’s blocking method above, so see above if you need images. Here, you just need to tap on Websites.

So, here is how to prevent your Facebook.com access. 

  1. Goto to your Settings.
  2. Tap on Screen Time
  3. If you have not set up Screen Time, follow the instructions to enable it. Once done, Tap on Use Screen Time Passcode.
  4. Then type in your desired passcode
  5. Go back to the main Screen Time screen and tap App Limits.
  6. Now, tap Add Limit, and enter the passcode if asked.
  7. Next, tap on Websites at the bottom.

  1. Now you’ll see Add Website tap it, and type Facebook.com, tap done then tap Next.

  1. Now on this screen, you can set a time limit to your app. Since you’ll be using it for locking the website; set the time to 1 minute, also, scroll down and toggle Block at End of Limit.
  1. There you go! now you just need to use Facebook.com on Safari for 1 minute until Screen Time requests the passcode. 

Note: You can use the same procedure to block any app or website on your iPhone and iPad, just make sure your OS comes with Screen Time.

Now the Screen Time wasn’t built for this purpose, but hey, it works great! Though you just need to spend two minutes on the app/website before assuring your privacy is intact. 

If your are part of the Apple’s Ecosystem and using the same iCloud Id on all your devices, and want to block the app or website, for instance, on your Mac as well; simply goto Settings > Screen Time > (scroll down) > toggle Share Across Devices

Please do Keep in mind that Screen Time will encrypt websites only on Safari browser, and not on Chrome or any other browser. I’d suggest you try Safari browser, you’ll love it.
