How to Delete WhatsApp Contacts but not from Phone

There are two ways:

1. Block Contact from WhatsApp

One method how you can try to restrict contact from your WhatsApp is by blocking them on WhatsApp. This method ensures that their phone number is accessible from your phone directory and you won’t see any of their updates on WhatsApp, nor will they see your WhatsApp activities.

Note that the contact won’t be able to contact you through WhatsApp. If that’s not an issue then follow me:

This is how to block your WhatsApp contact:

Open up WhatsApp.

Goto Chats tab.

Tap on chats tab

Tap on create new message button on the top right

Tap on new chat icon

Search for your contact, and tap on them

Now tap the contact’s name on top.

Tap on the contacts name

Scroll down, and you’ll find Block Contact written in red. Tap it and that’s it.

Tap on Block Contact 1

Now you won’t get their updates, and if they want to contact you on WhatsApp they’ll see your phone ringing, but you won’t be getting any call from them.

The blocked contact will see “Unavailable” instead of “Call not answered”– which you get when you are not blocked.

2. Save Number inside Notes

This is a clever trick I once found on Quora. It can keep your phone contact accessible in your phone directory but away from WhatsApp.

All that you need to do is create a new contact, and then instead of filling the mobile number area, scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see notes.

Paste or enter the number inside Notes, and tap Done.

That’s it. Now WhatsApp will not show this contact, and you can always search for the name and access the number from notes when you need it.

So that’s it for keeping your contact away from WhatsApp but not from the phone directory incase you ever need them.
